Overview

Discover the transformative power of nutrition with our engaging workshop tailored for university staff. This workshop will begin with an overview of how healthy eating positively impacts physical health, energy levels, emotional and mental well-being, cognitive function, and long-term vitality. Next, we will address common nutritional myths and individual challenges highlighted in the pre-workshop survey. You will then learn essential food literacy components, including nutrition basics: the Healthy Plate and portion control, dietary guidelines overview and understanding food labels.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the workshop, participants will

  • explain nutrition basics and how healthy nutrition affects physical health, energy levels, emotional and mental well-being, cognitive function, and long-term health.
  • be able to read and interpret food and nutrition labels, empowering them to make informed and healthier food choices.
  • identify portion sizes and how to implement portion control in their daily eating habits.
  • apply dietary guidelines and recommendations to their meal planning.
  • acquire practical skills in preparing healthy meals using local, seasonal, and sustainable ingredients, ensuring nutrient preservation and avoidance of unhealthy additives.
