Overview

The workshop is designed to support academics to develop a better understanding of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how this can be used to enhance their teaching and student learning experiences. During the workshop, the participants will use Generative AI tools and discuss how they can incorporate AI in their teaching and assessment practices in a responsible and ethical way.

The topics covered in this workshop include:

  • Overview of Generative AI;
  • Generative AI prompting (including hands-on practice);
  • Challenges & ethical considerations of Generative AI;
  • UM Generative AI Guidelines for academics and students; and
  • Teaching & assessments with Generative AI.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the workshop, participants will

  • describe the capabilities and limitations of Large Language Models (e.g. Google Gemini and ChatGPT).
  • develop effective prompts for Generative AI tools through hands-on practice.
  • identify and discuss the challenges and ethical considerations associated with Generative AI.
  • understand and apply the UM Generative AI Guidelines.
  • identify strategies to integrate Generative AI in their teaching and assessments.

Note:

  • Participants are asked to bring their laptops.
  • Academics who feel confident in their experience with Google Gemini and are interested in exploring more are welcome. However, please note that the first part of the workshop will delve into the basics of Generative AI to accommodate beginners.
  • Participants will be asked to complete a pre-workshop survey to identify queries and concerns about Generative AI.
