Overview
The workshop is designed for academic staff who will use Turnitin - the University’s plagiarism detection software. This session provides participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively use Turnitin within their teaching practice, ensuring adherence to the UM's plagiarism guidelines and policies.
The topics covered in this workshop include:
- introduction to the UM's plagiarism guidelines and policy
- the features of Turnitin
- creating submission drop-boxes for assignments and UG dissertations in the UM VLE
- accessing the PG dissertation/thesis areas and updating the due dates for submission
- downloading students' submissions
- interpreting the Turnitin similarity reports.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the workshop, participants will
- enhance their understanding of the University of Malta’s plagiarism guidelines and policies
- set up and manage submission drop-boxes in the UM VLE
- access and manage postgraduate dissertation/thesis areas in Turnitin
- download and store student submissions from Turnitin
- analyse and interpret Turnitin similarity reports to identify potential plagiarism.
Note:
- Participants are asked to bring their laptops.
- Participants should have basic knowledge on the use of the VLE.
