Overview

Academics often begin each semester with ambitious intentions to progress their scholarly writing and complete publication projects. However, these plans frequently overlook the specific realities and constraints of the semester, including teaching preparation, busy lecture time-table, committee responsibilities, and the administrative demands that consume small pockets of available time. As a result, writing plans that are not grounded in a realistic understanding of one’s schedule can lead to frustration and limited progress.

This webinar supports academics in taking a structured and realistic approach to planning their scholarly writing within the context of their actual semester commitments. Participants will explore methods for analysing their teaching, administrative, and professional schedules to identify genuine writing opportunities and align these with project timelines and submission goals. The session will address strategies for protecting writing time, approaches to breaking projects into manageable components that fit within existing constraints, and ways of using different types of available time effectively.

Participants will have the opportunity to reflect on their own semester demands and develop a personalised writing plan that is both realistic and sustainable. The webinar will provide practical frameworks, templates, and strategies to support consistent progress on scholarly writing, even within busy and fragmented academic schedules.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this webinar, the participants will be able to:

  • Identify genuine writing opportunities within your semester schedule.
  • Protect and optimise writing time for sustained progress.
  • Develop a personalised writing plan aligned with project deadlines and semester demands.
