Overview

The last decade has seen a steady increase in the number of students who embark on doctoral studies at the University of Malta. Like all programmes of studies, the Ph.D. degree is governed by a regulatory framework which includes specific content on admission, progression and examination of the thesis. This session is intended to define this regulatory framework and introduce the procedures that are meant to ensure the smooth running of the M.Phil./Ph.D. transfer and examination processes.

Resident academics who are new to doctoral supervision and examination are particularly encouraged to attend.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the workshop, participants will

  • describe the regulatory framework governing doctoral studies at UM.
  • explain the procedures for M.Phil./Ph.D. transfer and examination.
  • apply the framework and procedures to supervision and examination responsibilities.
