Overview

This session provides a practical, non-technical introduction to the purpose, process, and value of internal audits, with the aim of building confidence in engaging constructively with auditors. Participants will gain insights into how audits contribute to good governance, risk management, and compliance, and will learn how to prepare effectively for each stage of the audit process - from planning to reporting and follow-up. The session will also highlight the importance of clear communication, openness, and evidence-based responses in supporting continuous improvement.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this session, participants will:

  • describe the role and objectives of internal auditing within the University.
  • explain how audits support governance, risk management, and compliance.
  • outline the key stages of the audit process, from planning to reporting and follow-up.
  • identify what to expect before, during, and after an audit.
  • apply effective communication skills for interacting with auditors.
