Students applying to enter the Bachelors (Hons) in Dance Studies at the University of Malta are required to take part in an audition and interview to assess their suitability for the programme’s synthesis of practical and theoretical work. This is made up of:
To prepare, applicants should bring with them:
Additionally, applicants must submit a Medical Form [PDF], detailing their health history, fitness, and readiness for full time dance training. Send the form to Ms Priscilla Grima one week prior to the audition. Following successful audition, a medical doctor's signature is required on this form, before a final offer can be made.
Criteria for the audition and interview include technical ability (body awareness and alignment, control, flow, quality of earlier training); the student’s potential for development (quality of observation, commitment, expression, musicality); social interaction (the student’s openness to new ideas and ability to work with others), articulation (ability to explain their interests in Dance Studies and express their opinions); creativity (the ability to respond to tasks, improvise, take risks and problem solve); and critical thinking skills in written English. Previous ballet training is an asset, but not a requirement for entry.
Following a successful audition, applicants will be invited to apply to the course. Students interested in applying for a course commencing in October 2024 should note admissions information and local and international entry requirements for admission to the Bachelor in Dance Studies.
Important information for international applicants: Since the language of tuition and communication is in English, all international applicants are required to submit a Secure English Language Test (TOEFL/IELTS/Cambridge Advanced) to the required standard by 1 September on the year of entry. Please note that applicants who fail to submit this certificate by the stipulated deadline cannot be admitted to the course even if all other entry requirements are satisfied.
