Claudia Borg is an Associate Professor in Natural Language Processing within the AI Department. Her research focuses on AI techniques applied to the computational processing of language, focusing on Maltese. She is the National Coordinator for DARIAH-MT, the Research Infrastructure in Digital Arts and Humanities. She coordinated LT-BRIDGE (GA952194, https://lt-bridge.eu/), an H2020-Widening-Twinning project to bridge the gap between European and Maltese research in AI and Language Technologies, partnered with DFKI in Germany and DCU in Dublin. She leads several projects to develop the necessary computational tools to process Maltese funded by MDIA and Malta Enterprise. She was involved in building the first automatic speech recognition system for Maltese through the University of Malta Research Excellence Fund and the first Large Language Model for Maltese (BERTu). She is a member of the Women in ICT eSkills Foundation Committee, as well as the treasurer of the European Chapter of the Association for Computational Linguists. She received the Women and Girls Inspirational Leadership Award 2023 from the British High Commission in recognition of the work done in the field of innovation and technology.
