The Atmospheric Pollution Research Group, which is part of the Department of Geosciences at UM, operates a Global Atmosphere Watch station on the island of Gozo, located at Giordan Lighthouse. 

Trace gases, aerosols and Meteorological parameters are measured and Volcanic Ash and Aerosol Optical Depth are included.

This station is approximately halfway between Europe and North Africa, in the Central Mediterranean.
