The Chronic Disease Epidemiology Research Network (CDERN) is dedicated to advancing research on the burden and impact of chronic diseases, particularly in small countries and island populations.

CDERN focuses on the epidemiology of a wide range of non-communicable diseases and their associated risk factors, including

  • Diabetes
  • Obesity
  • Cardiometabolic disorders
  • Multimorbidity

CDERN also explores how medical education can better prepare healthcare professionals to manage non-communicable diseases.

Our core team consists of enthusiastic researchers, comprising of committed undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as experienced academics. We collaborate with various institutes and faculties within the University of Malta, as well as European and International institutes, universities, and associations, fostering multidisciplinary research and knowledge exchange in chronic disease epidemiology and medical education.
