Undergraduate programmes

We offer coursework leading to the following undergraduate degrees:

Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Chemistry (FT 3 years)
Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Chemistry with Materials (FT 3 years)
Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biology and Chemistry (FT 4 years)
Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Chemistry and Mathematics (FT 4 years)
Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Chemistry and Physics (FT 4 years)
Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Chemistry and Statistics and Operations Research (FT 4 years)

All programmes provide skills applicable to working in the chemical and allied industry and fulfil the entry requirements for postgraduate studies in related subjects.

B.Sc. (Hons) Chemistry

A 3-year single honours degree designed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the facts and concepts pertaining to the practice of modern chemistry. The programme includes units in biological chemistry, microbiology, and pharmacology that will give graduates sufficient knowledge that is required for flexibility in employment within the pharmaceutical and biochemical sectors.

B.Sc. (Hons) Chemistry with Materials

A 3-year single honours degree which aims to produce chemistry graduates who also have knowledge basic engineering concepts and of materials science. This knowledge is intended to render graduates of this programme flexible enough to work in areas where knowledge of both chemistry and materials are essential.

Postgraduate programmes

Master of Science in Applied Chemistry (PT 3 years by advanced study and research)
Master of Science in Chemistry (FT 1 year by research)
Master of Science in Chemistry (PT 5 semesters by research)
Ph.D. in Chemistry

Postgraduate programmes require that the student carries out a research project. In the M.Sc. in Applied Chemistry, the research topic is chosen at the end of the second year of study. In the M.Sc. by research and the Ph.D. students can chose a project in the areas of expertise of one of the members of staff. Academic members of the Department carry out research in diverse fields in chemistry. Those considering applying for research degrees, need to contact the Department of Chemistry before application.
