Scholarship for International Priests and Religious
- In recent years, the Faculty of Theology at the University of Malta has strengthened its commitment to internationalisation, welcoming students from diverse ecclesial and cultural contexts. Particular attention is given to the ongoing formation of priests and religious from different dioceses, in response to the pastoral needs of the universal Church.
- Each year, the Faculty invites dioceses to nominate priests and religious for scholarships to pursue the Licentiate in Sacred Theology (STL) with a specialisation in Pastoral Theology, commencing every October. This two-year programme engages critically with a broad range of pastoral themes and contemporary ecclesial realities, and is designed to support participants in their pastoral ministry, fostering both personal growth and effective service within their dioceses.
- The scholarship covers:
a. Tuition fees*
b. Accommodation costs
c. Monthly formation sessions and spiritual direction
d. Visa renewal expenses
- Applicants must demonstrate a good command of English (see language requirements).
- Students will reside at Casa Fratelli Tutti, a faculty residence located within the grounds of the Maltese Seminary at Tal-Virtù, Rabat (Malta). The residence accommodates up to five students; applications are therefore assessed on a first-come, first-served basis.
- In addition, students receive a modest monthly stipend and are given the opportunity to engage in pastoral ministry within a parish in Malta, supported by ongoing formation throughout their stay.

* The Faculty of Theology requests the Ministry of Education to grant a tuition-fee exemption for each applicant. The award of the scholarship is conditional upon the granting of this exemption.
