Student engagement in quality assurance procedures is an integral aspect of the quality culture of the University. The links below provide opportunities for students to be actively involved in enhancing the quality of programme learning, teaching and assessment and outcomes:
Students for Quality Assurance (S4QA) is an initiative launched by the Quality Assurance Committee (QAC) in October 2024. It aims to build a growing community of students who are keen to contribute to the University’s quality assurance initiatives and foster a strong culture of quality across the institution.
At present, participating students are mainly involved in the Periodic Programme Review (PPR) process. As part of this, S4QA members are assigned to Internal Quality Review (IQR) panels, where they help review and evaluate academic programmes.
Each year in October, a call for expressions of interest is published on Newspoint inviting students to join S4QA. Interested students may also register their interest at any time by sending an email to qac@um.edu.mt with the subject line “Student Representatives on IQR Panels”, including:
By joining S4QA, students play an active role in the continuous enhancement of quality standards at UM, while also gaining valuable experience that strengthens their CV. Participants who successfully contribute to the initiative will receive formal recognition through the DegreePlus study-unit DGP0010, which will appear on their official transcript as acknowledgement of their contribution.
Student representatives are the link between students and the University.

If a student needs assistance or wishes to submit a complaint, there are a number of ways through which this may be tackled.
The first point of contact for resolving an issue is within the respective FICS. Each FICS has a main webpage that offers an official focal point for its online presence. Students may find their specific FICS by accessing the respective pages for Faculties, Institutes, Centres and Schools.
Beyond the respective FICS, students may wish to resort to the below to address issues that they may encounter throughout their academic journey:
Request a Revision of Paper for Assessments
For assessments where a revision of paper is possible, students are able to apply for a revision of paper after the result is published on eSIMS. Requests for revisions of paper must be submitted online through eSIMS within one week from the publication of the component’s result.
Appeal for decisions of the Assessment Disciplinary Board
Students who have been accused of a breach of the University Assessment Regulations by the University Assessment Disciplinary Board may appeal to the University Assessment Appellate Board. An appeal is sent to the Secretary of the University Assessment Appellate Board by email to appellate.board@um.edu.mt by not later than fifteen working days from the notification of the decision of the University Assessment Disciplinary Board.
Submit a complaint regarding harassment or bullying
The University of Malta is dedicated to fostering an environment free from discrimination, ensuring that all students and staff are treated with dignity and respect. UM takes allegations of harassment and sexual misconduct very seriously and may implement measures, including disciplinary actions, in response.
Further information and instructions on how to report any kind of harassment can be found found through the below resources:
