General Information

Interested persons who wish to apply for PLAS micro-credentials are invited to apply through the online application facility.

Online Application Facility

The University encourages the completion of online applications. Applying online means that applications are available 24/7, can be submitted from the comfort of your home and the micro-credential/s fee can be paid through a secure online payment system. 

Which information do I need to apply online? 

  • A Valid Email Address - During the process, you will be asked for a valid email address. It is of utmost importance that you type the address correctly, since it will be used by the Centre for the Liberal Arts and Sciences to inform you about the status of your application.
  •  
  • Login Details - During the process, you will be prompted to create your application login details. It is important that you keep these details since they will be needed for certain actions, such as resuming a saved application or viewing the status of your application. If you already possess a University of Malta eSIMS login account, please note that you still need to create a new applicant account in order to apply.
  •  
  • Motivation Statement – Whilst filling in your application, you will be required to write a brief paragraph about your interest in applying for the micro-credential/s that you will be applying for.
  •  
  • Payment Card Details – The payment of the micro-credential/s fee is done through a secure online payment facility, where you will you will be prompted to input the card holder details in order to pay and submit your application. The cards currently accepted are Visa, Mastercard, BOV Cashlink and HSBC Quickcash cards.

If you have started an application and do not have the required information at hand, you will always have the option in each page to save the inputted details and continue later.

Eligibility

Micro-credentials in the Programme are open to persons who are deemed to have the ability to follow such micro-credentials with profit. Acceptance may be subject to a short interview. Certain qualifications and/or experience may be specified for particular micro-credentials. Successful applicants will be informed accordingly shortly after they submit their application.

Third-country nationals should already be in possession of a residence permit in Malta in order to apply to follow micro-credential/s offered in the Programme in the Liberal Arts and Sciences.  Kindly note that as per LN 29 of 2008, residence permits (for study purposes) can only be issued to students who have been accepted and admitted to pursue, as their main activity, a full-time course at the University of Malta.  Accordingly, residence permits (for study purposes) cannot be issued if a student is registered only for Micro-credential/s within the Programme in the Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Meeting for accepted applicants

An information meeting for accepted applicants will be held before the start of every semester. Accepted applicants will receive information about this with their letter of acceptance. 

Payment of micro-credential/s fees

Payment of micro-credential/s fees may be effected via a secure payment facility. Once you click the ‘Pay to Submit Application’ button which is found at the bottom of the page in the online application, you will be prompted to input the card details which include the card number, card expiry date, CVV number (if paying using VISA) and the card holder’s name.

Fees are fully refunded only if the micro-credential is not offered due to an insufficient number of applicants or if the applicant is not accepted to follow the micro-credentials after a short interview. If an applicant withdraws before the micro-credential starts or within the first month of the semester, the fee is refunded but an administrative fee of EUR 20 is retained. After the first month of the semester, fees are non-refundable.
