About us

Welcome to PROMISE, the University of Malta Research Cluster, focused on poverty issues. 

PROMISE, which stands for, Poverty Research Observatory for Malta: Investigate, Synthesise, Engage, is the first research cluster of its kind aimed at researching the various aspects of poverty in our local society, over one’s life span, focusing on four pillars:

  1. Child and family, 
  2. Young people, 
  3. Working Life, and 
  4. Older persons.

The research will be further strengthened through the analysis of horizontal issues, including data measurement, context, gender, migration and citizenship, amongst others.  

The Research Cluster, seated within the Faculty for Social Wellbeing but open to all Faculties, departments and centers is overseen by an executive committee, and supported by a stakeholders' forum which includes relevant entities from the wider community among which the NSO, the Ministry for Social Policy and Children's Rights, Caritas and the Anti-Poverty Forum.  

PROMISE is governed by the following Statute and has the following organisational structure:
