The Master of Notarial Studies degree provides a comprehensive knowledge of and training in core legal subjects of notarial law. The main areas covered during the taught component include fiscal legislation associated with immovable property, examination of title, conveyancing law, whilst the professional practice component is intended to prepare students for the profession of notary public emphasising more practical studies ranging from professional ethics to practical situations in notarial law.
The Course shall be open to applicants in possession of:
(a) the degree of Bachelor of Laws (Honours) – LL.B. (Hons) - classified with at least Second Class Honours or
(b) a Bachelor’s degree in Law from this university or any other university recognised by the Senate for the purpose, with at least Second Class Honours or Category II.
Applicants admitted under paragraph (b) shall be required to complete a preparatory programme, to which 60 ECTS credits are assigned, and to obtain an overall average mark of 55% or better in the preparatory programme, prior to their registration as regular students on the Course, provided that applicants who were registered on the course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and who did not qualify for the award of the Honours Degree shall not be eligible to join the preparatory programme.
Requires the submission of a Police Certificate of Conduct.

By the end of the course, the students will be able to:
(a) learn by doing, thereby acquiring knowledge through experiential learning; (b) write about and explain how notarial acts are formulated; (c) reflect upon the difficulties identified in notarial drafting; (d) acquire various legal skills such as research skills, communication skills, interviewing skills, and legal drafting skills; (e) solve problems as though they were given by a client in a real life situation; (f) advice on the notarial law.
This course is specifically intended for those persons who intend to sit for the exam to practice the profession of notary public.
This degree programme leads to the career of a Notary Public. For a notary to be eligible to sit for the exam, s/he should be in possession of the Master of Notarial Studies degree.
