Applications for our February and October intakes have been officially open since the third week in November. You can submit your application online. The Master of Notarial Studies degree provides a comprehensive knowledge of and training in core legal subjects of notarial law. The main areas covered during the taught component include fiscal legislation associated with immovable property, examination of title, conveyancing law, whilst the professional practice component is intended to prepare you for the profession of notary public emphasising more practical studies ranging from professional ethics to practical situations in notarial law.

In addition to the compulsory study-units, students are required to register for one elective study-unit (5 ECTS). Either the Year elective or a Semester 1 elective study-unit.

This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards, 2021 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of the Degree of Master of Advocacy – M.Adv. – and the Degree of Master of Notarial Studies – M.Not.St. under the auspices of the Faculty of Laws.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  1. learn by doing, thereby acquiring knowledge through experiential learning;
  2. write about and explain how notarial acts are formulated;
  3. reflect upon the difficulties identified in notarial drafting;
  4. acquire various legal skills such as research skills, communication skills, interviewing skills, and legal drafting skills;
  5. solve problems as though they were given by a client in a real life situation;
  6. advice on the notarial law.

This degree programme leads you to the career of a Notary Public. To be eligible to sit for the exam of a notary, you should be in possession of the Master of Notarial Studies degree.
