Business and Enterprise Management

The Bachelor of Commerce in Business and Enterprise Management is an undergraduate programme that will equip you with an understanding of the intricate mechanisms of modern businesses. Across a diverse range of taught units, you will unravel the skills of strategic planning, organisational behaviour, and effective leadership. The course includes a wide spectrum of knowledge that will give you a strong foundation in entrepreneurship, innovation, and corporal strategies, which will in turn hone your problem-solving skills and foster a profound understanding of the contemporary business landscape.


Tourism Management

The Bachelor of Commerce in Tourism Management will immerse you in the dynamic world of travel and hospitality. This undergraduate course will provide you with essential concepts such as tourism marketing, destination management, sustainable tourism, and hospitality operations. By gaining a deep understanding of tourism principles and honing your capacity to analyse industry trends, you will be able to make informed decisions in your prospective tourism management career. The variety of taught units will culminate together to develop your proficiency in utilising appropriate tourism management methodologies, ensuring that you are well-equipped to meet modern industry demands. By the end of the course, you will have cultivated critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills, empowering you to excel as a skilled tourism management professional.


Communication and Academic Skills Programme

The communication and academic skills programme complements students’ main course of study. It introduces them to writing and presenting as situated within academic contexts sensitive to specific disciplines and develops their competences for future careers.

For students majoring in Economics and Management, Management and Marketing or Management and Public Policy, no optional study-unit can be taken during Year 2 of the course. In this case, students majoring in Economics and Management need to register for study-unit ACC3521 and students majoring in Management and Marketing or Management and Public Policy need to register for MGT2365.

Students who go on Erasmus cannot register for MGT2348. Students going on Erasmus during the first semester need to register for MGT2358 in their second semester. Students going on Erasmus during the second semester need to register for MGT3219 in their first semester.

This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2019 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of the Bachelor of Commerce - B.Com. - under the auspices of the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy.

Business and Enterprise Management

Upon successfully completing the Bachelor of Commerce degree course, you will be able to:

  • Master a vast array of quantitative analysis techniques such as linear algebra, differential calculus, linear programming, and optimization techniques.
  • Estimate standard errors, sample size and margins of error, as well as construct confidence intervals, perform hypothesis testing, and subsequently interpret the resulting parameter estimates corresponding interval estimates.
  • Define the multi-construct linkages between entrepreneurship and new venture creation.
  • Map out the evolution of HR practice across the continuum with traditional, bureaucratic structure on one polar extreme and learning organisations on the other extreme.
  • Highlight and pinpoint out biases and misconceptions in the decision-making process.

Tourism Management

Upon successfully completing the Bachelor of Commerce degree course in Tourism Management, you will be able to:

  • Comprehend and describe the functioning of various tourism and hospitality market structures, and assess how changes in tourism demand affect industry dynamics.
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies for tourism destinations and hospitality businesses based on case study data.
  • Identify and evaluate different tourism practices.
  • Apply sustainable tourism principles to develop responsible tourism practices that benefit both destinations and stakeholders.
  • Analyse the performance of tourism and hospitality organisations using advanced management techniques and industry-specific metrics.

Business and Enterprise Management
