DESCRIPTION Synoptic Examinations are an excellent medium for students to express, in writing, the knowledge assimilated during three years of study. These exams intend to test the students’ capability to write a synthesis on selected topics, which they have studied. In preparing the exam paper, the Examining Board takes into consideration the study-units covered by the students and prepare questions, which cover more than one subject but comprises a unifying theme.

In answering each and every exam question, the student will be required to apply the acquired knowledge over the three-year study period by presenting holistic arguments. The chartered questions will be set out in a way that helps the students to show their ability in tackling unfamiliar contexts through identifying the principal arguments targeted by the questions themselves.

To improve the students’ proficiency in answering such exam questions, two-hour seminars will be held every week for third year students. These seminars will be held in the second semester when the students will be introduced to exam techniques and processes on how to answer a synoptic question. The topics of the seminar will be in line with the study units covered by the students. The seminars will be organized by the coordinator of the course.
