| DESCRIPTION | Students will develop a final essay through personal reading and research under the regular guidance of a member of the Chinese team of the Department. The choice of the theme and the topic require the approval of the supervisor and Head of the Department. Study-unit Aims: 1. Help the students select and conduct research on a topic related to Chinese studies, especially on Chinese linguistics and literature; 2. Train the students to use critical secondary sources; 3. Help the students write a proper academic thesis. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: 1. Critically evaluate secondary sources and their significance within Chinese studies; 2. Demonstrate a complex knowledge of critical discourses and how they overlap and inform our understanding of Chinese language and literature. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: 1. Write a literature review relevant to their chosen topic; 2. Formulate an argument with appropriate supporting evidence in an academic piece of writing. Main Text/s and any supplementary readings: The texts/readings depend on the topic chosen by the student. |
