DESCRIPTION This study-unit is intended to acquaint students with Latin words, terms, and proverbs currently used today. Each word and term is explained both in its modern application, and through Latin grammar and syntax.

Aims:

To help students of various Departments acquire an appreciation of the use of Latin in their own studies, and to enable them to handle easier Latin passages;
To offer students a basic introduction to Roman culture as a by-product to their study of the language;
To make students aware of the continuous relevance of the Latin language and culture through the centuries.

Outcomes:

To possess knowledge of basic Latin grammar;
To read sentences and uncomplicated passages in Latin;
To be able to cite various examples proving the importance of Latin to the history of Western culture.

Reading List:

Notes will be delivered in class by the lecturer.
