TITLE Introductory Latin Texts A and B

MQF LEVEL 5

ECTS CREDITS 4

DEPARTMENT Classics and Archaeology

DESCRIPTION This unit is intended for students who either have some knowledge of Latin, or who are already acquiring that knowledge. Simple sentences and passages are tackled from Latin and translated into Latin.

Study-unit Aims

The main objective is to help students gradually consolidate their knowledge of Latin grammar and syntax through a direct encounter with Latin texts in simplified form, starting from basic sentences and progressively developing to continuous text with more complex constructions. This will prepare students for their later encounter with Latin authors in the original language which, without this intermediate experience, would proof overwhelming. The passages read and explained in class can also serve to introduce students to various elements from ancient mythology, Roman history, and classical culture.
