| DESCRIPTION | This study unit acts as a bridge between knowledge and the field, transforming abstract concepts into lived professional experience. It provides students with the opportunity to link theory to practice through structured observation in different career guidance settings. By observing experienced practitioners in educational and employment organisations, students will gain a deeper understanding of how guidance services are managed and delivered. The unit emphasises reflective learning, professional awareness, and the development of key competencies through critical analysis of observed practice. Students will consolidate their learning through a reflective journal and a career path assignment, enabling them to connect real-world observations with career development theories and ethical practice. Study-unit Aims This study-unit aims to help students connect theoretical frameworks of career guidance with observed professional practice. It seeks to develop students’ awareness of the roles, responsibilities, and ethical dimensions of the profession, and to foster reflective thinking about effective guidance methods. Through observation and critical reflection, students will strengthen their understanding of professional competencies and enhance their capacity for self-evaluation and ethical decision-making as emerging guidance practitioners. Learning Outcomes 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit, the student will be able to: - Observe the "Transversal skills" of the profession - active listening, empathy, and maintaining professional boundaries. - Describe the roles, responsibilities, and working contexts of career guidance practitioners. - Explain how theories of career development and counselling inform observed practice. - Identify the professional competencies, values, and ethical standards required in guidance work. - Recognise how organisational and policy frameworks influence guidance delivery. - Reflect critically on observed practices and relate them to theoretical and ethical perspectives. 2. Skills (including transferable [generic] skills) By the end of the study-unit, the student will be able to: - Observe and analyse professional practice in career guidance settings systematically and ethically. - Record and interpret observations through reflective and critical writing. - Communicate insights from observation and reflection clearly and professionally. - Demonstrate ethical awareness, confidentiality, and respect in professional contexts. - Recognise personal biases that might influence the advice given to a client. - Use reflection to identify personal learning needs and areas for professional growth.
