DESCRIPTION This study-unit will focus on morphology and syntax, and specifically verbs and sentences in children and adults. It will start with a brief overview of Maltese and English morphology and syntax, and will then address atypical use and comprehension of morphology and syntax in children and adults, in both Maltese and English.

Clinical application to assessment, intervention and management of verb and sentence disorders will be a major component of this study-unit.

Study-Unit Aims:

- To address both typical and atypical morphology and syntax in children and adults. Both Maltese and English will be addressed;
- To inform students about both comprehension and expression of verbs and sentences;
- To enable students to apply knowledge of morphology and syntax to clinical assessment and intervention;
- To prepare students for assessment, intervention and management of verb and sentence disorders.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Describe typical use and comprehension of verbs and sentences in children;
- Describe typical use and comprehension of verbs and sentences in adults;
- Describe typical use and comprehension of verbs and sentences in English and Maltese;
- Understand important principles for assessment of verbs and sentences;
- Appraise different methods of assessment of verbs and sentences in children and adults;
- Appraise different methods of intervention on verbs and sentences in children and adults.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Assess comprehension of verbs and sentences in children and adults, in Maltese and English;
- Assess production of verbs and sentences in children and adults, in Maltese and English;
- Provide intervention for comprehension of verbs and sentences in children and adults, in Maltese and English;
- Provide intervention for production of verbs and sentences in children and adults, in Maltese and English;
- Formulate specific individualised SLP management plans for children and adults with verb and sentence disorders.
