| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit is available during the summer period. The student will be exposed to dental laboratory sessions in the various fields of Prosthetic Dentistry and Orthodontics, within the University Dental laboratory or alterative sites as deemed necessary by the Faculty. Official timetables will be customized according to the project availability and also to the class's requirements. Study-unit Aims: The aim of the study-unit is to expose students to dental laboratory practice in Dentistry. It will also seek to consolidate the technical training in Removable Prosthodontics as well as Orthodontics. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Describe the fabrication of removable prostheses. - Describe the fabrication of orthodontic appliances. - Discuss procedures in the dental laboratory. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Perform the laboratory steps in the fabrication of removable prostheses. - Perform the laboratory steps in the fabrication of orthodontic appliances. - Handle dental materials used in the dental laboratory. |

| ADDITIONAL NOTES | Attendance to scheduled sessions, inclusive of lectures/tutorials, practical, laboratory and clinical components is compulsory. Students who do not attend at least 90% of the scheduled sessions will not be allowed to sit for any of the assessment components mentioned below. This study-unit is assessed on a Pass/Fail basis. |
