DESCRIPTION This study-unit is available during the summer period and attendance is compulsory. The student will be exposed to dental laboratory sessions in the various fields of Removable and Fixed Prosthodontics, as well as Orthodontics, within the University Dental laboratory or alternative sites as deemed necessary by the Faculty.

Official timetables will be customized according to the class's requirements.

Study-unit Aims:

The aims of the study-unit is to consolidate students' knowledge and practical training in the dental laboratory. It will consolidate the technical training in Orthodontics and Prosthodontics, and further expose students to clinical cases of Fixed Prosthodontics.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

1. Describe the fabrication of removable prostheses;
2. Describe the fabrication of tooth-supported fixed prostheses;
3. Describe the fabrication of orthodontic appliances;
4. Discuss procedures in the dental laboratory.

2. Skills
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

1. Perform the laboratory steps in the fabrication of removable prostheses;
2. Perform the laboratory steps in the fabrication of tooth-supported fixed prostheses;
3. Perform the laboratory steps in the fabrication of orthodontic appliances;
4. Handle dental materials used in the dental laboratory.

 
ADDITIONAL NOTES Attendance to scheduled sessions, inclusive of lectures/tutorials, practical, laboratory and clinical components is compulsory. Students who do not attend at least 90% of the scheduled sessions will not be allowed to sit for any of the assessment components mentioned below.

This study-unit is assessed on a Pass/Fail basis.
