| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit focuses on three topic areas: the functions and limitations of legal systems as resolvers of social conflict; the scope and nature of alternative dispute resolution practices (including mediation, arbitration, and new methods of resolving public disputes); and modern trends in criminology, penology, and the resolution of conflicts involving crime and punishment.
