DEPARTMENT Centre for the Study and Practice of Conflict Resolution

DESCRIPTION This study-unit explores the role of culture in the genesis, structuring, and resolution of processes of conflict within and between groups. Special attention is given to ethnicity and other sub-cultural markers of identity in complex social systems as both the generators and outcomes of conflict. Students examine the relevance of these variables to the success or failure of conflict resolution. The study-unit considers case studies drawn from a variety of cultural and social settings. The study-unit also discusses modern critiques of the culture concept with special reference to conflict analysis and resolution.
