| DESCRIPTION | This is the FINAL placement that will be held across different government entities. The practical placements are structured, supervised and mentored periods of experiential learning that constitute a sequential learning process that will enable the student to develop the necessary competencies in Dietetics to practice professionally and in a safe manner. The placements' design is based on the European Federation Association of Dietitians Academic Standards (EFAD, 2018) and ‘A curriculum framework for the pre-registration education and training of Dietitians’ (BDA, 2020). Study-Unit Aims: - The study-unit aims to consolidate the student's ability to apply principles of dietary theory and evidence-based advice to various client groups encountered in common practice (these may include clients afflicted with endocrine, renal, cardiovascular, inflammatory (GIT and general), oncology and other locally significant health issues); - The student will critically evaluate the theoretical basis of communication behavior in the delivery of therapeutic advice and be able to select the appropriate model for changing a clients behavior; - The student will consolidate experiences that lead to interdisciplinary and intra-disciplinary approach to patient/ client management; - The student will actively be involved in making of informed professional judgments relating to all aspects of therapeutic care and preventive practice; - Scenarios encountered will include: - Collation of client histories in at least two different settings under supervision not previously encountered in previous placement; - Assessment of client status and design of dietary plans for cohorts not previously encountered in previous placements. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Demonstrate a working knowledge of all disciplines required to support practice with clients seen in this placement; - Identify strengths and weaknesses and take responsibility for personal, professional development including commitment to excellence of practice; - Demonstrate an understanding and ability to implement the strategies which can be used to influence nutritional intakes and nutritional standards; - Demonstrate an ability to communicate health promotion messages whenever appropriate; - Demonstrate an ability to contribute towards the effectiveness of both dietetic and multidisciplinary teamwork through an inquiring attitude and sharing of experiences; - Reflect on experiences and demonstrates reflection in action. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Become competent in translating theory into practice; - Become competent in obtaining information from clients and giving dietary advice; - Communicate with a diverse range of clients using appropriate interpersonal, social and counseling skills; - Communicate and interact with dietitians and other health care professionals in a confident and respectful manner; - Become competent with managing a workload comparable to that of a newly qualified dietitian, in line with CPCM benchmarking.
