DESCRIPTION This study-unit is designed to cover the foundations of the structure and function of the major body systems (nervous, endocrine, musculoskeletal, urinary and reproductive systems) in preparation for undergraduate allied health courses.

Study-unit Aims:

To present the structure and functions of the major body systems (nervous, endocrine, musculoskeletal, urinary and reproductive systems) to provide the students with the appropriate scientific foundation for medical and allied health courses.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Describe the location, structure and function of organs within the major body systems;
- Discuss the role of each system in contributing to homeostasis of other systems.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Identify the position of organs within the human body;
- Describe complex biological processes both verbally and in writing in clear English;
- Identify at a basic level clinical cases that deal with the pathology of organs of the main body systems;
- Initiate their own learning.

 
ADDITIONAL NOTES This study-unit is offered only to the Certificate in Foundation Studies students.

Please note that a pass in the Examination component is obligatory for an overall pass mark to be awarded.
