DESCRIPTION Literacy brings about transformations and media literacy brings about profound empowerment and transformation in learners.

The study-unit is an introduction to media literacy and how it can be used to bring about gender equity. It introduces the student to media literacy as a concept and as a tool.

With ever increasing screen-time, there is a great need for any ‘reader’ to fully understand how the media works, how it constructs gendered realities and how it constructs the reader or audience in a range of possible modes of reception. The study unit will also support students as they engage with the research around how digital use is gendered.
