DESCRIPTION The study-units German A1.1 to German B1.2 offer language training from beginners’ German to upper intermediate level (following the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). The study-units are designed as a series of continuing courses providing guidance for beginners with no previous knowledge of German steadily improving language skills. They are based on a communicative approach in class with a focus on applied German, starting from everyday-life situations to covering more broad topics as well as more specialised language use.

Training includes all language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing, which are practiced according to the levels achieved.

The study-units will be based on a textbook (A1 to B1) and additional material will also be provided in class. The study-units are designed for students of all subjects wishing to improve their career prospects and to broaden the range of their studies by acquiring additional language skills in one of the most important languages in the EU and beyond within many fields and professions.This study-unit is designed for students with no previous knowledge of German. After this unit, participants will be able to understand and use everyday expressions and basic phrases referring to concrete, everyday-life situations. They will, for example, be able to introduce themselves and others, ask and answer questions about personal details as well as being able to hold basic conversations about a range of topics, having acquired essential skills in speaking and listening. Participants will be able to arrange business and private appointments, buy food as well as organize other activities in German.

Study-unit Aims:

The study-unit is designed to provide basic language skills in speaking, listening, writing and reading German in relation to concrete everyday-life situations at beginner level A1.1.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- show a very basic understanding of correct German language use (reading, listening, speaking, writing) in everyday-life situations.

2. Skills:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- introduce themselves and others;
- ask and answer questions about personal details;
- organize activities in German (e.g. buying food, arranging business and private appointments, etc.);
- hold very basic conversations about a range of topics.
