DESCRIPTION Essay/Reading Comprehension and Linguistics / Aufsatz/Leseverstehen und Linguistik

In the light of the modular structure of the BA and BA (Hons) programmes of study, these study-units are designed to prepare and measure students' ability to link and combine together, with a thematic approach, language skills and knowledge acquired in individual segments, with the object of assessing students' overall level of maturity and understanding at the end of the degree course. Preparatory seminars are conducted by two or more members of the Department.

Study-unit aims

This study-unit aims at:

- testing the student’s knowledge and skills acquired during the course of studies;
- assessing the student’s writing and reading skills in German acquired during the course of studies;
- measuring the ability to link and combine knowledge acquired during the course.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge and understanding
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- understand a text in advanced German;
- outline the key points of a text in German language in good and correct German;
- define different areas and methods of German linguistics.

Skills
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- show the ability to combine different skills acquired during the course of studies;
- summarise and assess key points of a text in advanced German;
- discuss a topic related to German studies in a more advanced German.
