DESCRIPTION Construction Insurance

This study-unit should describes the general risks associated with construction and the general aspects of construction methods, processes and health and safety regimes, It goes into Risk management, underwriting, risk surveys ,JCT clauses and legal requirements and obligations of contractors. Moreover. it delves into contractors’ All risk Insurance policy cover, terms and conditions and Business Interruption.

Engineering Insurance

This section goes into engineering risks and type of plant and equipment falling under Inspected classes. It also delves into risk management, risk assessment and underwriting Engineering risks for inspected classes, risk management, risk assessment and underwriting Engineering risks for non-inspected classes and Policy cover, terms and conditions under an Engineering policy. Moreover, it looks into deterioration of stock.

Study-unit Aims:

The aim of this study-unit is to provide the student with knowledge of the principles, policies and practices related to construction and engineering insurance and how this type of insurance product is considered by insurers from the underwriting and claims perspective.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Understand the principles, policies and practices related to construction and engineering insurance and how this type of insurance product is considered by insurers from the underwriting and claims perspective;
- Understand the importance of risk management in these risks and how in practice this is being handled;
- Understand the coverage provided by the different policies and practices associated with each of these policies.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to identify, assess, underwrite risks related to this class of insurance as well as deal and settle corresponding claims. Moreover, practical experience will be added to this knowledge which, would enable the student to work in this area.
