DESCRIPTION The aim of the dissertation is to give the student a serious opportunity to dwell on a particular topic of his choice, and possibly to produce some original work. The Italian Department’s main areas of research are: modern and contemporary Italian literature; the use of the Italian language in Maltese society; translations of Italian literary or popular works into Maltese; critical appreciation and/or linguistic analysis of original works written in Italian by Maltese authors; error analysis in language learning; comparative studies, especially in Anglo-Italian literary contacts; the dubbing of English and American films and teleserials into Italian. The tutor will be assigned according to the topic chosen and the members' area of specialization.

ADDITIONAL NOTES **September Assessment Session: Students who fail to obtain an overall pass mark will be re-examined in the Dissertation. However, the resit availability for the Oral Examination is at the discretion of the Board of Examiners.
