DESCRIPTION | This study-unit is meant to prepare the third-year students for the first three-hour synoptic exam via a series of seminars on literature organized by the members of the Department of Italian. These seminars will provide the students with an overview of their three years of study and will prepare them to answer in an overarching fashion questions on Italian literature. Students may be required to forge links between various authors, schools of thought and literary traditions. Questions on Italian literature may span from the Duecento to the present day. In this section questions on Anglo-Italian Literature and Italo-Maltese Literature will also be included. Study-unit Aims: • To test the students’ knowledge pertaining to the areas of Literature after three years of study within the Department of Italian; • To prepare students to answer questions on Literature in an overarching fashion; • To demonstrate the links that exist between authors, movements, schools of thought and literary traditions from different historical periods. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: • Write in an appropriate academic style and with a strong critical awareness on a wide range of subjects pertaining to the areas of Literature; • Answer in an overarching fashion questions on Italian Literatureand Comparative Literature. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: • Answer a wide range of questions pertaining to the areas of Literature in an overarching fashion; • Link interrelated topics from different eras; • Express eloquently and with critical acumen notions pertaining to Literature studied in the three-year programme. Main Text/s and any supplementary readings: All the lecturers will draw on the readings covered in the three-year programme. |
