DESCRIPTION Greek Mythology has always fascinated people of all ages. The reason for this has created the very subject of mythology, with experts contributing ideas from history, sociology, anthropology, archaeology, philosophy, psychology and other fields. The reason why we concentrate on Greek Mythology, rather than on Roman or Egyptian, for example, is owed to the fact that it was Greek and Roman literature, imbued by Greek Mythology, which influenced the rest of the ancient and modern worlds.

The Unit is intended to introduce students to the study of Greek Mythology, distinguishing stories about the gods, heroes and monsters and attempting to explain how these stories are different one from each other, and what made them be included in Greek Mythology.

Unit Aims:

This Unit intends not only to classify myths into three categories, those being historical, aetiological and fantastic, but also attempts to study what creates a myth and how it is passed on to later generations.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

- Grasp what mythology and myth mean;
