DESCRIPTION | The study-unit will focus on the major criminal trials from 1854 onwards and such trials will be analysed within the context of the Criminal Code of the same year as it has evolved since then. Study-unit Aims: It aims to teach students how to apply the provisions of the Criminal Code to particular cases, to understand how the law can be interpreted in diverse ways and how the courts would have decided particular cases. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - write on the provisions of the Criminal Law; - explain the provisions of Criminal Code as found in case law; - know and understand the reasoning behind a particular case studied in class. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - apply the provisions to the Criminal Code to a particular case; - distinguish between the various interpretations of a particular provision of the Criminal Code.
