DESCRIPTION Din it-taqsima-studju għandha l-għan li tagħti lill-parteċipanti għarfien iktar fil-fond kemm tal-problemi tal-lessikografija fihom infushom kif ukoll ta' dawk li huma marbutin speċifikament mal-lessikografija Maltija.

Fil-bidu jiġu ċċarati d-distinzjonijiet bażiċi bejn tipi differenti ta' dizzjunarju (e.g. dizzjunarju monolingwi u dizzjunarju bi- jew plurilingwi, dizzjunarju storiku, dizzjunarju etimoloġiku, glossarju tekniku, dizzjunarju skolastiku, dizzjunarju on-line, eċċ). Jiġu diskussi l-kriterji ewlenin li huma importanti fid-damma ta' kull dizzjunarju, bħalma huma r-rikkezza u l-affidabilità tal-informazzjoni, it-tqassim tal-lemmi u tar-referenzi għalihom, iċ-ċarezza tat-tifsir, il-ħeffa għall-konsultazzjoni u l-preżentazzjoni fiżika.

It-tieni parti tat-taqsima-studju tindirizza l-prinċipji u l-kriterji li huma marbutin speċifikament mal-bini ta' dizzjunarju Malti, bħalma huma l-preżentazzjoni problematika ta' lemmi ta' nisel differenti fi ħdan sistema waħda, organika u eleganti, it-tqassim ċar tad-derivattivi kollha ta' għerq/zokk morfemiku u l-problema tal-varjanti fonetiċi u ortografiċi. Bl-għajnuna ta' dan l-isfond, tingħata ħarsa evalwattiva lejn id-dizzjunarji Maltin minn De Soldanis 'il quddiem.

L-eżerċizzju kollu għandu jwassal għal idea iktar ċara ta' kif nistgħu niżviluppaw qafas lessikografiku għal dizzjunarju Malti ġdid bil-għajnuna wkoll tal-informatika.

Study-unit Aims:

The aim of this study-unit is to inform students about past scholars of Maltese and their contributions to Maltese studies, and thus help them appreciate pioneer work which has served as a solid basis for our modern scholarship.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
(a) make better use of any dictionary;
(b) have a good idea of the historical development of Maltese lexicography.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
(a) distinguish between dictionaries with different aims or audiences;
(b) evaluate a dictionary on the basis of clear linguistic criteria;
(c) use the acquired knowledge towards the projection of a new online dictionary for Maltese.
