6. Brain Tumours
7. Dementias
8. Parkinson’s Disease and other Movement Disorders
9. Multiple Sclerosis
10. Myaesthenia Gravis and Guillaine Barre Syndrome
11. Cerebral Palsy, Mental Subnormality, Hydrocephalus.

Study-unit Aims:

An understanding of common neurological conditions which speech and language pathologists are most likely to meet in their practice.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will have a knowledge and understanding of pathology, clinical features, investigations and treatment of neurological diseases.

2. Skills:


By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to, based on this knowledge, be able to offer the appropriate management regarding speech, communication and safe swallowing in these neurological conditions.
