DESCRIPTION Learning Objectives:

By the end of the study-unit the student will:

- Gain an insight in the concepts of health promotion and health information;
- Understand the role of the midwife as a health educator across the woman’s life span;
- Gain an understanding on the methods of adult teaching and learning;
- Develop the students’ communication and presentation skills.

Contents:

- The concept of health promotion and information;
- The Principles of Health Information;
- The midwife as health educator;
- The role of the Health Information Unit;
- Introduction to adult teaching and learning;
- Facilitating adult learning;
- Health education in Maltese society;
- Preconception education;
- Health during the perinatal period.
