DESCRIPTION In this study-unit students will be given training in violin playing. During these lessons students will develop new skills and techniques which are required to perform violin music in different styles, genres and levels of difficulty. Also, students will receive basic knowledge and skills in interpretation.

Study-unit Aims:

This study-unit aims to:
- introduce students to new technical tools in order for the musical ideas to be fully realized;
- give students basic knowledge of interpretative technique;
- develop new and improve existing playing skills;
- widen the students’ repertoire.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

a) comprehend basic concepts of proper violin posture and technique (mainly, bowing and fingering);
b) develop the ability to analyse violin pieces from the technical and historic point of view.

2. Skills
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

a) demonstrate good posture of both hands, and produce a well-controlled sound;
b) play 3 to 4 octave scales with all required triads and chords;
c) play 3 to 4 studies on major bow or/and finger technique;
d) play from memory;
e) take decisions about choice of repertoire and study it on own initiative.

Music supplied by the teacher.

 
ADDITIONAL NOTES Primary / Intermediate level of knowledge and technique in Violin playing.

Non-music studies students are required to sit for an audition.
