DESCRIPTION This study-unit will focus mainly on improving the student's technical and musical abilities to a high performance level. Students will be guided to work on a core repertoire which will include classical, romantic and 20th century compositions, which will focus on both solo and ensemble playing techniques. This study-unit will examine and discuss performance anxieties and coping strategies, improving personal skills for optimal performance and how to obtain better results from practicing.

Study-unit Aims:

The main aim is to provide students with a good level of performance skills to improve their musical capabilities in order to succeed as a performer.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- demonstrate an understanding of the development of their respective instrument's repertoire;
- identify major works for their instrument and build up an effective and contrasting programme;
- have the tools to be self-critical, prepare a musically-rendered performance and prepare effective programme notes.

2. Skills
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- identify strengths and weaknesses in their musical performance and improve their qualities;
- focus on the relevance of historical and stylistic issues in performance.
