DESCRIPTION | This study-unit offers a systematic survey of vocal repertoire from the Baroque and Classical periods through analysis and discussion. Throughout the study-unit, an emphasis on the authenticity of interpretation will be made through academic research and study. Study-unit Aims: This study-unit aims to develop a performer’s research skills in performance and interpretation through an academic approach. Learning Outcomes: Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: a) identify the main performance and interpretative characteristics of a specific period of vocal repertoire; b) evaluate and appraise a vocal performance in terms of authenticity and precision; c) recognize and illustrate knowledge of performance, technique and interpretation of a vocal repertoire of a specific period. Skills By the end of the study unit the student will be able to: a) perform an academic research on the performance and interpretation of a historical period of vocal repertoire; b) research aspects of vocal technique in connection with conventional performance practice; c) research and discuss the performance, interpretation and style of a vocal repertoire within its historical context.
