MQF LEVEL 4

ECTS CREDITS 4

DEPARTMENT Nursing

DESCRIPTION This study-unit will assist students develop knowledge of anatomy and physiology that is required in order to understand complex medical and surgical nursing conditions.

The study-unit will discuss the following topics:
- Introduction to the human body;
- Cells and tissues;
- The skin;
- Blood;
- Cardiovascular system;
- Respiratory system;
- Gastrointestinal system; and
- Hepatic-biliary system.

Study-Unit Aims:

This study-unit aims to develop students' knowledge on human anatomy and physiology. This unit focuses on a number of body systems. The rest of the body systems are covered in a supporting study unit , Physiology and Anatomy related to care II, which will run later in the academic year. Knowledge of the human anatomy and physiology is essential in order to understand abnormalities in body systems which prevail upon the incidence of diseases and conditions which call for care provision by nurses in various care delivery settings.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Identify and describe the main structures of the body;
- Describe the functions of body systems.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between one's medical/surgical conditions and how a medical/ surgical condition differs, alters and deviates from the normal structure and function of the human body.
