DESCRIPTION | This unit will study the establishment, functions and conduct of affairs of the Kunsill Malti ghall-Isport, the officers and employees of the Council, sports facilities, directorates and advisory committees, financial provisions, register of sports persons, sport dispute resolution, disposal of Government land in favour of the Council, allocation of funds to the Council from the Good Causes Fund, the relationship between the Council and various sports organizations such as the Malta Olympic Committee and other sports national associations and federations, the workings of the Sports Appeals Board, the infliction of administrative penalties and the legal personality of sports organizations. The latter aspect will be compared with the registration of non-governmental organizations under the Voluntary Organizations Act, Chapter 492. The unit will also discuss the Prevention of Corruption (Players) Act, Chapter 263. Study-unit Aims (a) To teach sports law to students (b) To teach pertinent case law on sports law (c) To study sports law from an international dimension Learning Outcomes 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: (a) analyze the pertinent Maltese legislation on the Law of sports; (b) identify and analyze the pertinent Maltese case law on sports law; (c) comprehend the major international laws on sports relevant and applicable to the proper understanding of Maltese law on sports; and (d) establish the nature and classification of sports law particularly the elements of public law which characterize the subject. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: (a) write about the various laws which regulate sport; (b) discuss pertinent case law on sports law; (c) identify the major international laws on sports.
