DESCRIPTION The focus of this study-unit is to give the students the opportunity to acquire the basic technical, tactical and physical components of the game of badminton. Various methods will be used to allow the students to gain confidence in playing the game, thus becoming able to play this game and to keep fit and healthy.

Study-unit Aims:

This study-unit aims at providing students with knowledge and hand on experience of the different strokes that are used in Badminton.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to identify and perform the following badminton strokes:

- Services: underhand forehand high serve; backhand low serve; backhand flick serve.
- Net Play: Net shots forehand and backhand.
- Net Shots lobs forehand and backhand.
- Mid-court play: Forehand Drive and Backhand drive; Defending attacks
- Back court play: Offensive and defensive clear: Backhand.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Play a competitive badminton game at recreational level.
- Pose the necessary skills to join a club and start training at club level.
