DESCRIPTION This study-unit is targeted at students who represent the University of Malta or the Maltese national team in national or international competitions. Elite athletes dedicate long hours of training and preparation for such competitions, and this unit gives them the opportunity to reflect on their preparation, performance and participation and to present it in a report.

Study-Unit Aims:

This study-unit is aimed at elite athletes who participate in national and international events or who represent the University of Malta. The aim of this study-unit is to teach athletes to reflect on their preparation and performance and on the work involved in organising national and international competitions. Through a reflective report, students will describe their experience and the learning outcomes of their participation in these games together with their future targets.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge about the physical and mental preparation involved for participating in national and international competitions;
- Demonstrate knowledge about the process to register for national and international events;
- Identify the challenges in participating in elite sports tournaments and how these can be overcome;
- Learn about the administrative work involved in the preparation for participation in tournaments.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Write a report about the preparation and participation in sport events;
- Apply for participation in national and international sport events;
- Demonstrate knowledge of the rules of the competitions in a particular sport;
- Reflect on their preparation and participation in competitions.

ADDITIONAL NOTES Before registering for this study-unit, prospective students are to present attestations at the IPES Administration Office, concerning their competing in national/international events and representing the UoM. University elite student-athletes representing Malta in international events may apply for this study-unit after consultation with the study-unit tutor. Otherwise their registration is forfeited.
