DESCRIPTION This study-unit involves planning a project in a sports or physical education related area, and after discussing it with a tutor, carrying it out under his/her supervision. This unit culminates in the presentation of a report on the planning, the process and the outcomes of this project, together with the challenges encountered. A project can take various forms and could be related to research or to a specific sport programme.

Study-Unit Aims:

The aim of this study-unit is to develop within students the ability to plan, organise and independently carry out a project in the area of sport, physical activity and Physical Education under the supervision of a tutor. Students will also learn to reflect on the progress and outcomes of such a project.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Demonstrate knowledge of the stages of planning and carrying out a project in the area of sport;
- Demonstrate technical knowledge in a sport related area;
- Demonstrate an understanding of the procedures required for entry into a particular field for the purpose of the project.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Plan a project with specific targets and time-frames;
- Independently carry out a project with commitment and enthusiasm;
- Reflect on all the stages of the project, including the planning, delivery and outcomes;
- Take initiative to carry out a project under the supervision of a tutor.

ADDITIONAL NOTES Before registering for this study-unit, prospective students are to discuss a project proposal with the unit co-ordinator. Otherwise their registration is forfeited.
