| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit will explore the main Nietzschean informed approaches in the study of philosophical philosophy with particular attention to key ideas and concepts in contemporary philosophical theory. It is because of Nietzsche's radical revaluation of the philosophical that his ideas provide a challenge to our times and by seeing the way these ideas have been received and appropriated by various movements, a better understanding of the contemporary world of politics can be achieved. Study-Unit Aims: - To explore the Nietzsche's fundamental philosophical concepts; - To appraise the various, and sometimes contrasting, theoretical approaches to Nietzsche's philosophy; - To introduce alternative modes of thinking to Nietzsche's philosophy; - To critically examine the ways in which Nietzsche's philosophy can be situated within contemporary philosophical discourses. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Identify the key differences between a Nietzschean philosophy and other different philosophical systems; - Appreciate the background in Greek culture of Nietzsche's politics; - Understand the reception towards Nietzsche's philosophical thinking. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Apply Nietzschean philosophical thinking to a variety of other philosophical theories; - Interpret philosophical positions from a Nietzschean perspective; - Situate contemporary philosophical scholarship in the light of Nietzsche's criticisms oforthodox philosophy; - Employ close reading to Nietzsche's academic texts. |
