DESCRIPTION This study-unit has two main components: the first part deals with Catechesis. Students will be introduced to the history, aims and method of catechesis. Particular emphasis will be made on the developments that happened during the last century. Students will also get acquainted with the differences and affinities between Catechetics and Religious Education.
The second part of the study-unit deals with Pastoral Care. It explores the basic attitudes linked to a caring community of faith, and identifies different paradigms of pastoral care as well as major problem areas to which pastoral care is addressed.

Learning Objectives
By the end of the Course, students should be able to:
(i) describe and explain the nature and goals of catechesis;
(ii) explain how the catechesis of the Church responded to different challenges during different periods and contexts;
(iii) grasp the basic attitudes linked to a caring community of faith;
(iv) understand different paradigms of pastoral care;
(v) know how to link pastoral care with major problem areas today.
